Hi
everyone! If you're receiving our emails for the first time in a while, or even
the first time, it's probably because our updates were getting filtered by many
servers. We've employed a new email server that sends the updates
individually to everyone in our list so hopefully we've resolved that issue.
We're also trying a new method of sending pictures that leaves them on our
website instead of in your email so the email remains very small. Let us know
if there is any problem with any of the pictures as we're still trying to work
all the bugs out.
We only
have one week left before we leave the British Virgins Islands heading back to
the North American Mainland so we're going to do one last little 'tour' of all
our favorite spots to share with you. On the 29th, we'll be setting sail for
Bermuda and will be sending our updates again every day as we travel...
hopefully! Those of you that were following the last trip might remember us
getting caught in a storm that flooded our laptop and effectively knocked out
communication for a few days! This time we're going to try and send along a new
'picture of the day' with each entry as we travel the open
ocean.
Anyway,
hope this finds you all well, and here's our latest entry!
This is
Soper's Hole a quaint little island town with gorgeous little shops and a
wonderful market with fresh breads and yummy hard to find foods. We always stop
in here when we are on the West end of Tortola and fill up with water, diesel
and wander the shops and lovely walkways. Everything is painted in bright
pinks, blues and corals and it has such a happy and cheerful feeling when you
pull in.

Steel
Drum Band Playing at Lunch in Pusser's Rum Bar
We
dinghyed over to Pusser's for a late snack of wings and cool drinks after we
heard the unmistakable sound of live steel drums wafting over the boat. We had
been searching for steel drum bands since we got here and as of yet had only
heard a few in the US islands. As we munched on our hot wings in the cool shade
the band started to play a new set and they were amazing. Nothing fits the
island sun, breezes and sights like the sounds of a steel drum playing.
The
View Across Our Bow of Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
After finishing lunch and a little shopping, we headed to Cane Garden Bay
to spend a few days. It has a long curving white sand beach which Ashley and I
love to walk on in the mornings and cool evenings. The anchorage can be a
little rolly here so we rigged up a second stern anchor and backed right up
close to the beach. It turned out to be the perfect spot to sit in the cockpit
at night and hear the local bands playing. I could also swim to shore right off
the back of the boat and wade to shore when the sun got to hot. The weather
this week has been very hot and no breezes to speak of. All the locals say it
already feels like it usually does in July, lucky us!!
Lucky
'Manning' the Helm as we set the Anchor.
Lucky
enjoyed an afternoon hanging around the cockpit and swinging on the life lines!
She's so funny when she sits on the lifelines and mimics all the sound effects
of the local birds. She's picked up a few new ones so it will be interesting to
see what the Canadian birds back in Georgian Bay think of her this summer!
She's also been learning how to say "Thank-you so much!"... who would've
thought... a parrot with manners!
Sunset
on Cane Garden Beach
Our
walks in the evening are so relaxing and the lighting is perfect. Its that
twilight time when everything looks rich and exotic and almost magical. The
beaches are very quiet and the surf laps at our toes as we walk
along.
Another
Beautiful Sunset Behind 'Sophisticated Lady'
The Lady
calming floating at sunset. The island behind is Jost Van Dyke, our favorite
island among many. We head back to the boat to start the bbq and have a quiet
dinner over looking the beach and listening to the island
sounds.
Cheers, Terri
& Rick 'Sophisticated Lady'
