Just a quick update
to let you know the return trip is almost finished! We finally got through the
Erie Canal's 36 locks, got the mast back up and went on to Port Colborne where
we cleared back into Canada. Terri left the boat to go visit her family while I
had more crew arrive to help with the final sail around the Great Lakes to our
homeport in Georgian Bay.
We're only 50 miles
from the finish line and should be arriving at our dock in Penetang Bay by
tomorrow before lunch time. Even this last stretch has been full of all kinds
of weather... sunny and hot, to freezing cold, dense fog, lightning storms, and
now we're enjoying the final stretch down Georgian Bay with 10 knots of wind
behind us carrying us home at about 4-5 knots on calm seas with sunshine. We're
still traveling with Frank aboard 'Dauphin', and it will be great to end both
our trips at the same time back at our dock. We had set out at different times
last year and managed to bump into each other several times in the islands, but
it was great to meet up with him in Bermuda and have a travel companion for the
duration of the trip from there.
We managed to
stopover at Tobermory, that great little town at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula,
where we tied up for the night and waited for my boys to arrive. It's great to
have my kids aboard for the final stretch of the trip! It's been a long haul...
we've averaged over 100 miles per day for over 30 days, that's a lot of moving!
It will be great to get back to Penetanguishene and get 'Sophisticated Lady'
cleaned up from her major voyage, then it will be time to get back to work doing
daysails from the Town Docks.
Hope everyone is
doing well, and we'll look forward to hearing from you!
Cheers,
Rick (&
Terri)
